My goal is to help students become confident, independent thinkers and effective problem solvers. I use a student-centred approach, encouraging learners to voice their thoughts, think out loud, and take ownership of their learning. Each online tutoring session is tailored to the individual learner’s needs, with a personalised learning plan that builds both reasoning and problem-solving skills. This ensures learners not only gain confidence but also experience success in every aspect of maths.

Every lesson is personally planned, customised, and delivered by me, Smita Nag — a qualified and experienced maths tutor—ensuring the highest quality of teaching and support.

About me

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (an Institute of National Importance, INI ) Jamshedpur, India in 2009 and a Master's in Information Technology (Courseware) Engineering - Education Technology from Jadavpur University in 2020 (GOLD MEDALIST). I'm also a GATE Scholar, a merit-based scholarship, GATE. I worked for 4 years as a 'Senior Engineer-Service Delivery/Programme Management' for Tata Communications Ltd, a Global leader in ITC. During my tenure there I was awarded the company's prestigious accolades 'Blue Ribbon' & 'Xtra mile' for outstanding performance and innovation. Along with work experience in India, Sri Lanka and Australia, I also have a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 2020 I started working as an online maths consultant for a leading tutoring company in London.

Qualified the IELTS with an overall band score of 8.5 out of 9

Students in both the UK and the USA benefit from my tutoring, with lessons tailored to their school curriculum and exam goals. In the UK, I support learners from KS1 up to GCSE and SATs, while in the USA I work with students from elementary through high school and beyond. Whether it’s building strong foundations or tackling advanced topics like Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, or Statistics, I ensure each student gains confidence and achieves success in math.

I absolutely love maths and would value the opportunity to help students to build their confidence with the subject and excel in their exams or school work. But, my interests extend far beyond maths. I enjoy playing many types of sports, including netball, basketball, swimming and badminton.

I come fully equipped with references and also DBS checked in England.

While the internet is full of free resources, not all of them are reliable or accurate. The flow of information is often disjointed, leaving gaps in understanding. A tutor ensures there’s structure — guiding you on what to study first, what to focus on next, and how to build a strong foundation step by step. Most importantly, lessons are tailored to suit each student’s unique learning style, making the process more effective, less confusing, and far more enjoyable.

I believe concepts can’t be taught passively — they must be caught by students through active thinking. To foster this, I guide learners by asking the right questions, leading them to think in the right direction. I break complex problems into smaller, simpler steps - a staircase approach - enabling students to build understanding step-by-step and confidently grasp the bigger idea. Wherever needed, I use videos and animations to help them visualize concepts and their physical meaning, making learning both clear and engaging.

All lessons are online, one-to-one, using interactive resources. Each session is tailored to student's learning style and school requirements.
